On 1 March 2017, AS 5124:2017 was published to provide requirements for the safe design and installation of car parking systems in Australia. AS 5124:2017 is an adaptation of EN 14010, the European standard for Safety of Machinery. Klaus GmbH was approached by the Council of Standards Australia for its input and comment on the Australian adaptation of the European standards.
All KLAUS products are designed and manufactured in strict accordance with EN 14010, and thanks to its adaptation into the Australian Standards, our clients can have peace of mind knowing our products are 100% compliant across the range, from the smallest stacker parker to our largest fully-automatic parking systems.
Fire safety is a large component in basement car parks, and as majority of our systems are installed in this setting, coordinating with fire service engineers is one of the many parts of our design process. In Melbourne, the MFB Fire Safety Guideline GL-32 outlines the potential fire hazards within fully-automated parking systems, and offers solutions to minimise these hazards. At present KLAUS Multiparking ANZ is installing a fully-automated MasterVario system in the heart of Melbourne, which includes such design considerations, in particular the addition of clear access paths and balustrading within the parking system itself to assist in fire-fighting access during the event of an internal fire.
Again, the MFB requires any automated parking system to be compliant with AS 5124:2017, as well as EN 14010. As we plan on being a major contributor in the future growth of automated parking in Australia, it is our aim to continue to comply and assist with Australian Standards as strict and clear guidelines ensure only the best manufacturers can offer the safest products in the local market.
